World Book Day 2022
One of the Chiltern Academy school calendar highlights is always the celebration of World Book Day, and this year definitely did not disappoint.
Staff and students were encouraged to dress up on Thursday 3rd March as fictional book characters, and they made a fantastic effort; the costumes were wonderful! We had a myriad of characters from Mrs Sheppard-Davis’ sublimely spooky ‘Woman in Black’, Miss Pickering’s fabulous Little Miss Sunshine, Miss Gamble as the notorious and evil Cruella to a whole host of ‘Where’s Wally’s!.
The day began with the entire school community including students, senior leadership team, teaching, administrative and support staff making solemn pledges to ensure that reading is embedded in their daily lives. These pledges have been displayed in the central thoroughfare to remind us of our reading commitments.
Meanwhile, students took on a gruelling four-hour reading challenge in the library, reading as many books as possible to help raise money for seriously ill children. Their achievement will earn the school lots of free books for the library! BENEFITS OF READING The ‘Guess the Reader’ Competition was a very popular activity with students as they curiously tried to figure out which member of staff was reading behind the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ character mask.
Our super readers or “word millionaires” were treated to an afternoon tea with the headteacher, Mr Ian Douglas, who was so impressed with how many reading superstars Chiltern Academy has! Thank you and well done to all pupils and staff who helped make this year’s World Book Day a success. We can’t wait for next year!
