Supporting Your Child With Reading at Home

As students move through secondary school, the way they engage with reading evolves. It shifts from "learning to read" to "reading to learn"— as well as, reading for pleasure. At Chiltern Academy, we know that strong literacy skills are the single greatest predictor of success across all subjects, from analysing sources in History to deciphering complex problems in Science.

While your child is becoming more independent, your role at home remains vital.

Research shows that teenagers who read for just 20 minutes a day score significantly higher in GCSEs and report better mental wellbeing.
