Assessments
In 2014 the government removed national curriculum levels with the intention of complementing the introduction of a revised, more challenging national curriculum.
Therefore at KS3, like all schools across the country, we have our own in-house reporting system for progress.
At Chiltern Academy, our feedback and assessment policy aims to provide timely, effective and tailored feedback which meets the needs of all learners. We view effective feedback as an integral mechanism for meeting the needs of all pupils, providing appropriate levels of challenge and maximising potential.
All pupils in Chiltern Academy are assigned a attainment target for each subject on entry. Within each subject, the pupils will learn essential subject knowledge and develop key skills identified in their assigned Key Progress Indicators (KPIs). The KPIs in each attainment target develop in challenge as pupils progress through secondary school, preparing them with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to achieve or exceed their GCSE targets.
Pupils are assessed regularly in lessons through a variety of Assessment for Learning methods and personalised feedback is provided to continually develop their learning.
Formal assessments take place against the KPIs at least once per half term in every subject through.
Teachers will assess how well the pupils are progressing against the KPIs in their coloured attainment target.
If a pupil is working beyond their attainment target they will receive KPIs which are more challenging to allow them to maximise their learning potential. This supports our ethos of having a growth mindset as we encourage pupils to work to the very best of their ability at all times in order to make excellent progress.
Reading Performance
At Chiltern Academy, we prioritise reading and pupil progress no matter what the starting point may be. Our uncompromising endeavour to ensure that all pupils receive high quality reading provision has resulted in notably improved progress in reading.

Outcomes
Pupil progress
At Chiltern Academy pupil progress is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to maximise pupil progress. GL assessments are robust online assessments which indicate pupil progress from their starting points and compare pupils’ scores nationally. Our KS3 pupils have completed GL assessments for English, Maths, Reading and Spelling, giving each pupil a Standardised Age Score (SAS) for each test. The distribution of SAS scores across each year group in each test can be seen in the graphs below;
