Inter - House Book Battle 2022

The inaugural Chiltern Academy Book Battle reached a thrilling finale on Wednesday when Brawn were crowned as the champions. The Brawn team; Mahrosh W, Zofia S, Uarda I, Roksana G, Magdalena Jand Burhan S were trailing behind Shilling in the first round, before clawing back victory and winning by two points.

On Thursday the battle continued, another exciting match: Brawn vsThe Literary Legends (the parents’ team). The Chiltern Academy Book Battle 2022 culminated with Brawn snatching victory from the jaws of the Literary Legends; Brawn scoring 24 points to their rival’s 16 points.

The Book Battle is an inter-house reading competition for students in KS3. Students compete in house teams to answer questions on books they have read from a designated reading list, with a similar structure to the popular quiz show ‘University Challenge’. The competition is designed to promote a whole-school reading culture and cultivate an interest in reading and the library.

Congratulations to all students who participated; they have shown perseverance and resilience and have helped create a reading buzz around school. This was evident in the positive feedback from participants and students. Maya Agu in Year 8 said ‘This is one of the best competitions: it has introduced me to a book that has now become my favourite book of all time; I am honoured to have participated’.
